What A Day To Remember!

Well, it’s now the middle of April and I am happily married. Our wedding was on April 12th. I must say that everything turned out PERFECTLY. PERFECT bride, perfect weather, perfect ceremony, perfect reception and perfect ending to a great year of engagement.

We had our rehearsal dinner at the Biltmore Golf Resort on Friday. Everything turned out great. Saturday was a packed day of getting reading and doing little last minute things. Our wedding was at St. Francis Xavier Church in Phoenix. After the wedding ceremony, we (Wendi and I) cruised over to our reception at Paradise Valley Country Club in a Bentley while the wedding party jumped in a Cadillac Escalade limo . Not too shabby! Once we got to the reception, we took some more pictures with the photographer before our grand entrance and first dance. Our photographer was Alan from Moments Found. He and his staff were phenomenal! Great job Alan!

After some more pictures and our first dance, we ate some wonderful food at the Paradise Valley Country Club. Filet Mignon and bacon wrapped shrimp. WOW! That’s all I can say. GREAT food! A little sip of vino here and there, a few toasts from family and friends and we danced the night away!

Around 11 p.m. we went back to our hotel which was the JW Marriott at Desert Ridge. What another wonderful experience. Everything was perfect. The day after the wedding we had a brunch for family, friends and out of town guests at the University Club downtown Phoenix. Another great event!

We then got to go back to the JW Marriott at Desert Ridge and relax by the pool and lazy river! Much needed rest!

Our next adventure is our honeymoon set for late May in Lake Como, Italy. My gorgeous wife, pizza, wine….what more could I ask for!

So, all in all…it was THE PERFECT DAY!

The Groom’s Guide To Wedding Planning

For those of you who have not gotten the chance to participate in wedding planning, here is your guide to wedding planning survival. I am getting married this April and am on the tail end of the planning. This I tell you from first hand experience. So, here we go…

  1. Find a way to get involved. Realistically, wedding planning is primarily a female hobby but it’s not to say the guy can’t get involved. I can personally say that I have not been a whole lot of help in planning my own wedding. It’s understandable that most guys are not interested in floral arrangements, invitations, cake toppers and bridesmaid dresses. This is normal. However, there are many areas of planning that you can get involved in such as food tasting, the honeymoon, the rehearsal dinner, the ceremony and of course the infamous bachelor party! Learn from my mistake and do what you can to participate. It’s only once (we hope!) that you will have to do this so make the most of it.
  2. When asked for your opinion (and you will be asked), be honest as it most likely won’t matter anyway. Honestly, the bride already knows what she has her mind set on. Your soon to be wife just wants you to be a part of the decision making process even though she actually has full authority to make all final decisions without your help or input. This is her way of making you feel included.
  3. Support your future other half! I am telling you right now that stress will arise and there will be nights when your fiance lays in bed all night with her eyes wide open thinking about wedding stuff. Be there for her. At the very least, assure her everything will be okay and tell her that everything will turn out perfectly, because in the end, it will.
  4. Take a break every now and then. Get her mind off of the wedding planning every now and again. It helps clear her head. Go our for a nice dinner or a weekend away to clean the slate. Do what you can to keep her mind off of planning even though she will still try and think about it.
  5. Plan your bachelor party plenty of time before the big day! Give yourself time to recover adequately because if you’re anything like me (an old fart…31 years old next this Saturday!), you will need the rest and relaxation. You don’t want bags under those eyes, do you?
